kolam sequence 2nd size 

Susan E and I are adapting some of the exercises from my book (working title of Kolamology). The goal is for readers/doers to learn South Indian designs called "kolam" and explore the nature of mathematical thinking in parallel. It comprises a set of linked exercises and reflections on them, and is coming out in the Winter 2018-19 (Tara Books, Chennai).

There is an extended set of exercises about sequences of kolams -- which lend themselves perfectly to computer science in general and TurtleStitch in particular. Please contact me if you are interested in this work sunitavatuk@gmail.com.
This is the first project we gave to the students in her AP CS class, for which she has been using the BJC curriculum, in preparation for their final projects. It is a simplification of an especially auspicious Aishwarya kolam made only in the puja room (i.e., where people worship -- or "do puja")-/

I created two different sequences based on the Aishwarya for the students to understand and learn to code -- to explore the idea of sequencing.

Note: The Aishwarya kolam is the "3rd size" in the sequence, but it is easier to see the structure on the "2nd size", so that is where we started.
